Sizzling Summer Fishing 2014

Sailfish, Wahoo, Kingfish…What More Can You Ask For?

Sailfish Takes Off 7-31-14

Summer fishing has been sizzling hot this week. Three of the most popular fish swimming our offshore waters, sailfish, wahoo, and tuna, have been tearing up our baits. We do not usually catch a lot of sailfish this time of year, but we have managed to catch two nice ones in the last three days. Wednesday we were surprised to catch a sail, then Friday we caught another! Check out the videos to see some of the action.

A nice sailfish would be enough to make any fishing charter memorable, but Fridays trip also included bonito, kingfish, tuna, and a big wahoo! Now that is a fishing trip!

Big fish and happy customers. This is why I love fishing Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale Offshore Report 7-30-14

Deep sea fishing offshore of Fort Lauderdale has been good lately. Mahi, bonito, and kingfish are the most consistent catches. We have also caught skipjack tuna, blackfin tuna, a big rainbow runner, and a nice sailfish.

Captain Alex was joined by my mate Dave and some eager angler for a charter aboard the Reel Work on Tuesday. They got some nice mahi and a big rainbow runner by casting bonito chunks around a log they found floating in about 800 feet of water. After the action slowed at the log they caught a few bonito and skipjack tuna while trolling bonito strips under small squidlys.

I was back at the helm for this mornings charter. We headed back out to the 800 foot range and started trolling bonito strips under small squidlys along with a seawitch bonito strip combo behind a planer. Our anglers were having a great time catching kingfish and blackfin tuna when a nice sailfish decided to join the party. Our angler did a great job fighting the sailfish to the boat where we took a few pictures before releasing it. We don’t catch a lot of sailfish this time of year, but every now and then one will surprise us.

Summer is a great time to go deep sea fishing offshore of Fort Lauderdale. The weather is usually good and we catch a nice variety of fish. Come on down and join us for a deep sea fishing charter!

Ft Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing 11- 8-2012

Anglers fishing off Fort Lauderdale with me aboard the Reel Work this morning caught several nice mahi -mahi (dolphin), and a couple of skip jack tuna. We also saw several sailfish but were unable to get them to bite. Sailfish have begun moving into Southeast Florida waters with the recent cold fronts. We were able to land a nice sailfish last Sunday, the 4th. There numbers will increase through the end of the year and well into 2013.

Ft Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing 8-2012

Fort Lauderdale fishing has been good over the last few weeks. Bonito have kept anglers aboard the Reel Work busy along with a nice mix of kingmackerel, tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, sailfish, barracuda and sharks. Snapper fishing has also picked up over the last week with some nice fish coming off local wrecks and ledges. Bonito are a member of the tuna family. These speedy fish form large schools within a few miles of shore. There reel screaming runs make them fun to catch and the large numbers of fish will keep you busy all day.

Anglers fishing with me landed a bunch of mahi. Look for fishing to get even better as the weather warms up.

Ft Lauderdale Fishing Heats Up In March

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters

by Captain Walter Shaw

Other then a few days of strong winds and rough seas, Ft Lauderdale deep sea fishing has been good for the last week. Anglers aboard the Reel Work have been catching blackfin tuna, bonita, grouper, mahi-mahi, wahoo, sharks, sailfish and even a rare white marlin.

February 29th was special not just because it only comes around every 4 years, this leap day our anglers had a great fishing adventure catching bunches of tasty blackfin tuna and drag screeming bonita. When the action slowed down on the surface we droped our lines on a ship wreck and landed some grouper. Last Saturday lucky anglers aboard the Reel Work were treated to a white marlin. Although the white marlin is a fairly common catch around Maryland, they are a rare catch off of Ft. Lauderdale. The sailfish were also biting good on Saturday. Anglers fishing with us today had a nice mix of tuna, mahi-mahi and some wahoo. We also droped lines on some wrecks and landed sharks and a bunch of nice bottom fish. Look for the fishing to get even better as March heats up.

Ft Lauderdale Fishing Report 2-23-12

Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing has been good for the last week and a half. Anglers aboard the Reel Work have been catching mahi-mahi, wahoo, king mackerel, tuna, tilefish, skipjack, snapper and sharks. Fishing slowed a bit at the end of last week but has picked back up since.

Last week started strong with a fun day of catching good sized dolphin and some skipjacks. Our anglers had a blast and took home some tasty mahi filets. Tuesday and Wednesday our anglers were treated to a nice variety of fish. Our clients caught mahi-mahi, a few tuna and even hooked into a few drag screaming kingfish. Fishing slowed a little on Thursday and Friday. Hard work payed off though with a nice wahoo and a tiger shark. My first mate Adam ran the boat on Sunday and our crew had a really cool day of shark fishing. They got some blackfin tuna, a hammerhead, silky, and thresher shark. I was back at the controls for 2 trips yesterday. Our anglers landed a few tuna and some tilefish in the morning, then on the afternoon trip my anglers caught a big sandbar shark and some bottom fish.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report 3/6/2011

Fishing has been pretty good the past month and is still getting better. Just about everything has been biting. Trolling for kingfish, bonita, and blackfin tuna has been fairly good lately. The sailfish and mahi-mahi have been biting on live baits while kite fishing. There are some sharks being caught as well. There are some big barracuda and a few amberjack around some of the ship wrecks and artificial reefs too. A few of the boats have been giving reports of white and blue marlin, swordfish, cobia, and wahoo. All in all fishing has been really good and there have been a lot of trips going out. Well, that’s all for now. Hope to see you soon.
