Sizzling Summer Fishing 2014

Sailfish, Wahoo, Kingfish…What More Can You Ask For?

Sailfish Takes Off 7-31-14

Summer fishing has been sizzling hot this week. Three of the most popular fish swimming our offshore waters, sailfish, wahoo, and tuna, have been tearing up our baits. We do not usually catch a lot of sailfish this time of year, but we have managed to catch two nice ones in the last three days. Wednesday we were surprised to catch a sail, then Friday we caught another! Check out the videos to see some of the action.

Sailfish Surfaces 7-31-14

A nice sailfish would be enough to make any fishing charter memorable, but Fridays trip also included bonito, kingfish, tuna, and a big wahoo! Now that is a fishing trip!

Big fish and happy customers. This is why I love fishing Fort Lauderdale.

A White Marlin And A Swim

white marlin

Fishing Fort Lauderdale’s offshore waters continues to be good lately and today turned out to be a realy fun day! Tyler got his first White Marlin as a mate for us today. There is an old sportfishing tradition that says when you get your first White marlin, you have to go for a swim at the docks. Congratulations Tyler!

Video: Shark Fishing Off Fort Lauderdale

Donald went fishing with us this morning and caught very nice 8′ to 9’sandbar shark. Even better, he managed to capture this video of my mate releasing the hard fighting shark. The video is just over 50 seconds long, but it took Donald a little over an hour to get the shark to the boat. Congratulations Donald!

Sailfish Double Header Fort Lauderdale

New Year Sailfish Double Header

Double header sailfish hookups don’t happen every day, but when they do it is a lot of fun. On Friday we had a shared charter fishing with us. Lotta Gustavsson and her son Marcus were visiting from Sweden. Jim Reinhard and his brother in law Jerry Sgro were also on board. Fishing has been good lately, with some large shark, sailfish, mahi, and wahoo being caught, but these four were fortunate enough to be with us to enjoy this rare treat. Jim Reinhard captured all of the action in the video above.

As the video begins we see Marcus battling the first sailfish moments after hookup. After some quick instructions he heads to the back of the boat and does a fantastic job fighting the fish as it jumps and tail walks across the water behind us. A few minutes later a second rod starts to scream. We see a second sailfish make a few dramatic jumps before the video ends so that Jim can battle his own sailfish.

I want to thank Jim Reinhard for fishing with us and sharing this great video! I also want to congratulate Marcus, Lotta, Jim and Jerry doing such a great job with there sailfish double!

The New Year is a great time to catch sailfish off of Fort Lauderdale! Be sure to fill in the form on the left side of this page, go to our contact page or give us a call to set up your Fort Lauderdale fishing charter.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters Video

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters
I wanted to share this video we made back in 2008 of one of our summer fishing trips. It was early August when the Gallaway family chartered us for a half day trip. The day started off catching some nice bonito and kingfish when one of the outriggers went off. Dad did a great job getting the 74″ sailfish to the boat. The sailfish revived and released unharmed. Everybody wanted to try bottom fishing so we stopped at a wreck on the way back to the dock. Fifteen minutes after we dropped baits to the wreck one of the rods doubled over. After a hard fight a 40lb amberjack was brought into the boat. The family was all smiles as they posed for pictures with there days catch back at the dock.

Although this is an old video, it reminds me of some of the great trips we have had this summer. Give us a call at the number below or fill in the form on the left hand side of this page to set up your Fort Lauderdale fishing charter!

How To Harvest Florida Stone Crabs

Stone crab claws are one of the tastiest delicacies to come out of Florida’s waters. Florida’s stone crab season is open to both commercial and recreational fisherman from October 15th to May 15th each year. This video from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shows you how to properly measure and harvest stone crab claws.

First, measure the claw from the elbow to the tip of the lower claw. This measurement must be at least 23/4″ in length. To remove the claw hold the body and opposite claw of the stone crab firmly in one hand, then grasp the claw you want to remove with you other hand and quickly twist down and pull. The claw should break off where it meets the body. This does not harm the crab and the claw will grow back. To learn more about how to harvest stone crab claws and to check current regulations visit http://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/stone-crabs/
