Fort Lauderdale Offshore Report 7-30-14
Deep sea fishing offshore of Fort Lauderdale has been good lately. Mahi, bonito, and kingfish are the most consistent catches. We have also caught skipjack tuna, blackfin tuna, a big rainbow runner, and a nice sailfish.
Captain Alex was joined by my mate Dave and some eager angler for a charter aboard the Reel Work on Tuesday. They got some nice mahi and a big rainbow runner by casting bonito chunks around a log they found floating in about 800 feet of water. After the action slowed at the log they caught a few bonito and skipjack tuna while trolling bonito strips under small squidlys.
I was back at the helm for this mornings charter. We headed back out to the 800 foot range and started trolling bonito strips under small squidlys along with a seawitch bonito strip combo behind a planer. Our anglers were having a great time catching kingfish and blackfin tuna when a nice sailfish decided to join the party. Our angler did a great job fighting the sailfish to the boat where we took a few pictures before releasing it. We don’t catch a lot of sailfish this time of year, but every now and then one will surprise us.
Summer is a great time to go deep sea fishing offshore of Fort Lauderdale. The weather is usually good and we catch a nice variety of fish. Come on down and join us for a deep sea fishing charter!
