White Marlin

The White Marlin is an offshore pelagic fish found in the deeper waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and western Mediterranean Sea. White Marlin are dark blue to chocolate brown on top fading to a silvery white belly. There upper jaw is elongated into a spear that is used to stun there prey. They can be told apart from the similar looking Longbill Spearfish by there rounded pectoral, first dorsal and first anal fins. White Marlin are normally a solitary fish, preferring to swim by themselves, but are occasionally found in groups of 3 or more fish. They average between 45 lbs to 65 lbs but reach sizes of over 180 lbs. White Marlin are a blast to catch on light tackle. They are usually caught while trolling small spoons, feather rigs, or strips of squid, ballyhoo, mullet and mackerel.
